State Budget Funds Enrollment Growth, UC Merced
The 2005–06 state budget, signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in July, includes increases for student enrollment growth, the opening of UC Merced and an initiative to expand the training of K–12 science and math teachers.
10th Campus Welcomes First Students at Opening
The University of California, Merced — the first new UC campus in 40 years and the first ever in the San Joaquin Valley — held its grand opening on Labor Day (September 5).
UC to Redirect National Merit Funds
The six UC campuses that currently provide funding for National Merit Scholarships will redirect that funding to other merit-based scholarships beginning with the class entering in fall 2006.
